The Chicago Bears selected Florida defensive tackle Gervon Dexter in the second round of the the 2023 NFL draft, a big get for Matt Eberflus’ defense.
The best moments of the NFL draft are getting to see the moment new rookies learn that they’re being drafted, where their emotions are raw and in the moment. That was the case for Dexter, who shared the moment with friends and family.
Dexter spoke with general manager Ryan Poles, Eberflus, team president and CEO Kevin Warren and defensive coordinator Alan Williams, and it was clear that Dexter is eager to get to work.
Take a look at the moment Dexter learns he’s going to be a Chicago Bear:

Dexter brings versatility as a defensive linemen, where he can line up both at 1-technique and also play some 3-technique. That would fit what we’ve seen from the Bears this offseason, where they’ve added players who can play multiple spots.
He has an explosive first step that helps him create penetration and disrupt the run game, which is huge for a Chicago defense that was among the worst against the run last season.
Dexter has drawn comparisons to DeForest Buckner, the motor of Eberflus’ defense in Indianapolis, given his size and athleticism. Perhaps Dexter can become that player for Chicago.
