Ten years ago today, on 23 June 2016, the UK narrowly voted to leave the European Union in a referendum that sent shockwaves across Britain and the rest of Europe.

Brexit itself was far from immediate, taking almost four years for the UK to leave the EU. What followed was relentless political campaigning, bitter parliamentary battles, and dramatic twists along the way.

From the infamous “battle buses” of the referendum campaign, David Cameron's dramatic resignation just hours after the Leave victory, to Theresa May's Brexit deal being voted down in the House of Commons three times, the road to Brexit was anything but straightforward.
