The Washington Commanders added a ballhawk to their secondary Thursday, selecting Mississippi State cornerback Emmanuel Forbes in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft.
The 6-foot-1 corner finished his college career with 14 interceptions, six of which he returned for six touchdowns — an FBS record.
On Thursday evening, Forbes received a call from Washington head coach Ron Rivera that would change his life forever. He was coming to Washington.

While Forbes played it cool with Rivera while the two briefly chatted on the phone, his emotions were evident after he hung up and celebrated with his family.
On Friday, Forbes flew to Virginia, meeting with the coaching staff and sitting down with former Washington players Fred Smoot and Santana Moss for an interview.
