WATCH: Ed Sheeran surprises Dublin fans with Westlife hit

Ed Sheeran surprised his fans last night with a cover of Westlife’s hit track ‘Flying Without Wings’.

The star performed an intimate warm-up show at Vicar Street and his fans came from all over the world to see him.

Ed traded in his top hits to have a go at singing an acoustic version of Westlife’s noughties bop.

Speaking about the Vicar Street gig to Ryan Tubridy this morning, Ed said that the venue is his favourite in Europe.

He told Ryan: "I do think it is the best venue in Europe in terms of intimacy. It's a big venue but when you play the show you can see everyone at all times. I just really, really enjoy playing it. It was really good fun to do that gig yesterday."

"I'm feeling it this morning cause I played a bit longer than I was planning to."

It’s no secret that Ed is a huge fan of the Irish band Westlife as he reportedly asked Nicky Byrne, Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, and Kian Egan to perform at his wedding to Cherry Seaborn.

The ‘Shivers’ singer also wrote and produced several tracks for Spectrum, Westlife’s latest album, alongside legendary songwriter Steve Mac.

In fact Steve Mac, who also wrote 'Shape of You', flew over to Dublin especially for the Vicar Street gig which inspired Ed to sing the Westlife hit.
