Watching players on the field during training camp is one thing, but hearing what they’re saying only adds to the excitement. The Los Angeles Rams often mic up their players for practice this time of year and the first player to be wired for sound in training camp was rookie running back Blake Corum.
He wore a mic for practice last week and before the action started, he and Jared Verse exchanged some friendly trash talk after Corum told his fellow rookie he was mic’d up.
“I’m going to run you over today,” Verse said. “I’m going to light you up. forget that pad stuff, man. You’re getting it today. I’m going to meet you in the backfield. We’re going to have a party in the backfield.”
Corum: “If you can get there, I’m going to see you there.”
Verse: “What do you like to eat? We’re going to have a date in the backfield. You like Italian?”
Corum: “I like it all. I’m not picky.”
It was all in good fun, of course, but it’s also great to see the type of competitor Verse is. he’s known for being a bit of a trash-talker and that showed already on the first day of practice.
Later on in the video, Corum marveled at a throw Matthew Stafford made, hyped up his fellow running backs and got some good tips from Colby Parkinson during pass-protection drills.
“You don’t need to get too aggressive there because then he can up-and-under. Kind of sit and let him come to you, you know what I mean?” Parkinson told Corum.
Sean McVay has loved Corum’s intelligence and football IQ in practice and meetings, and it’s easy to see why. The Rams got a good one with their third-round pick.
