The moment punters at Scots bar belted out a sing song tribute to the late Dame Olivia Newton-John has been caught on camera after her death was announced. Customers at The Horseshoe Bar in Glasgow joined in for an impromptu rendition of the Grease smash hit Hopelessly Devoted To You in honour of the 73-year-old.
The footage, widely shared on social media, shows the passionate crowd singing at the top of their lungs while swaying along to the iconic tune during a karaoke night on Monday. Viewers commented that the rendition gave them “goosebumps” and was a fitting tribute to the singer and actress.
Her husband John Easterling announced her sad passing after a 30 year battle with breast cancer yesterday evening. In a statement, he said: “Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends.
“We ask that everyone please respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time. Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer.
“Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund (ONJFoundationFund.org).”
Grease co-star John Travolta led tributes online and said: “We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John."
