Scottish thief targets restaurant and makes off with cash in 'shocking' raid

A thief made off with a wad of cash and other items from a restaurant in Midlothian in the early hours of Saturday morning (March 19).

The incident took place at Slumdog restaurant in Dalkeith at around 1:30am and has left those working at the restaurant feeling unsafe.

In images shared on the Facebook page of the restaurant, a man can be seen entering the premises.

In their post, Slumdog said: “Dear Customers! We’re here today to share sad and shocking news - unfortunately, on Saturday morning around 1:30 am our Dalkeith Restaurant was broken into.

“We are devastated that someone could violate our property and trust!

“Thankfully no one was working late that night, so no one was hurt but we all can’t feel safe anymore!

“Please share this post and help us spread the news and hopefully save other local businesses too!

“We also share a video in the comment!

“We would be more than grateful if anyone can DM us with any information or email us at feedback@slumdogdelivered.com

In the video - which can be viewed above - the man is seen using the torch light off of his mobile phone as he looks around for things to steal.

The overweight man appears to be wearing a hooded jacket and cotton jogging bottoms as he makes his way through the premises.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, senior manager Carolina said that the restaurant has been inundated with tip-offs following the post and now believes that the culprit has been identified.

She said: “He made off with cash and a number of items but we are of course most concerned about the money.

“We have reported the incident to Police Scotland but they have said they cannot send anyone to see us until Monday morning. So we will have to wait.”

Anyone with information relating to the crime has been asked to contact the restaurant at: feedback@slumdogdelivered.com or Police Scotland.
