MUMBAI: Within 24 hours of landing in India along with the rest of the Australian team for the five-match T20I series against the hosts, Beth Mooney was down with a stomach-related illness. The opener missed Australia’s first two training sessions, managing to train only on the eve of the match, and till the morning of the opening T20I against the hosts at the DY Patil Stadium on Friday, she wasn't sure if she would even be able to take the field.
However, in a knock which aptly reflects the steely determination which abounds in the 28-year-old left-hander, she not only turned up for the match, but also smashed a terrific, unbeaten 89 off just 57 balls to steer Australia to a nine-wicket win. Mooney's blazing innings saw the Aussies hunt down 173 -their biggest ever run chase in T20Is.
