USC Trojans quarterback — and Washington, D.C. native — Caleb Williams won the 2022 Heisman Trophy on Saturday. The 20-year-old received 544 first-place votes, far ahead of TCU quarterback Max Duggan, who had 188 first-place votes.
Williams received 2,031 points, far ahead of Duggan’s 1,420 points.
Williams played high school football at Gonzaga College High School in D.C. and was a five-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, initially signing with Oklahoma. After head coach Lincoln Riley bolted for USC, Williams entered the NCAA transfer portal and followed Riley to Los Angeles.
In 13 games for the Trojans this season, Williams completed 66% of his passes for 4,075 yards, with 37 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Williams rushed for 372 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Williams has passed for 5,987 yards in two college seasons, with 58 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. He has also rushed for 16 touchdowns.
He has one more season before he’s eligible to enter the 2024 NFL draft.
Legendary quarterback guru Tom House compared Williams to Patrick Mahomes, something Williams welcomed.
“It’s pretty cool, I’d say, just because everybody watches Patrick and sees all the cool things he can do,” Williams said, courtesy of Zach Gelb of CBS Sports Radio. “I always said even in high school that I don’t think there’s anything — obviously, he’s special, but I don’t think there’s anything that I can’t do that he’s doing out there. I think it’s really cool.
Plays like this are why Williams is compared to Mahomes.
Caleb Williams, man.

Williams is already the frontrunner to be the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft. It’s doubtful Washington will be bad enough to have a chance at Williams but could you imagine the hometown hero in burgundy and gold?
It’s far too soon to speculate about Williams’ NFL future, but that shouldn’t stop Washington fans from dreaming.
