'Was that a bet?' Ronan Keating claps back at Jack Whitehall after he mocks him on BBC The One Show

The One Show ended in laughter as comedian Jack Whitehall made an unexpected quip. The BBC programme has been celebrating teaching heroes, teaming up with The Teaching Awards.

In Wednesday night's episode hosts Alex Jones and Ronan Keating were joined on the couch by the stars of the film Matilda The Musical Alisha Weir and Andrea Riseborough. They also chatted to comedian Jack Whitehall, the star of the school sitcom Bad Education.

Alex and Ronan read out heart-warming messages from viewers about the teachers who have shaped their lives. One message read out towards the end of show said: "Mr Bevan helped mould me into the person I am today. I'm now 50 years of age and will always remember him."

Then Jack cut-in with the remark: "Can I just say, no matter what they teach us though, what we believe is true." Boyzone star Ronan immediately picked up that the words were the lyrics from the boyband's 1998 number one hit No Matter What written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman.

Jack jokingly included Boyzone lyrics (BBC)

"Oh yeah," he clapped back. "Was that a bet?" he asked. And Jack grinned knowingly and pointed at the singer. Ronan asked, laughing: "Did you win the bet?" And as the show drew to a close and they thanked their guests, Ronan joked: "Thank you to Jack, kind of."
