Warzone adds Avalon to Battle Royale as first-ever big map rotation rolls out

Call of Duty: Warzone has officially introduced Avalon to its traditional Battle Royale mode, rolling out the game’s first-ever big map rotation system. Players can now jump between Avalon and Verdansk in a single playlist, with the maps swapping every 10 minutes.

This new big map rotation gives players consistent access to both maps without needing to jump across playlists. It’s a huge shift from Warzone’s long-standing format, where only one large-scale map is available at any given time.

Planned to roll out in Season 3, Avalon’s arrival in standard Battle Royale is especially interesting because it wasn’t originally built for the mode. The map was first designed for Black Ops 7 Endgame and was previously limited to the Blackout-inspired Black Ops Royale within Warzone.

While some players may already recognize Avalon’s layout, its transition into core Battle Royale changes how it plays entirely. Traditional BR features like custom loadouts, permanent perks, and buy stations, combined with newer mechanics like Grappling Hooks and Wall Jumps, make matches feel much faster and more aggressive compared to the grounded Black Ops Royale.

Avalon in BR also features three Gulag variants, forcing you to adopt a more tactical approach when you fight other players for redeployment.

For now, the big map rotation is only available in Quads, meaning squads of four are the only way to experience Avalon and Verdansk in Battle Royale. Solo, Duo, and Trio options haven’t been added yet, which may leave some players waiting for more flexibility. You can still play solo by disabling the squad fill option, but that means you will need to fight against teams.

Avalon also isn’t part of Casual Battle Royale at launch, so players looking for a more laid-back, bot-assisted experience won’t be able to explore the new map in that playlist just yet.

Even with limited options, the introduction of big map rotation marks a huge step forward for Warzone. Keeping multiple large maps in play helps shake off gameplay fatigue among players while still holding onto fan-favorites like Verdansk.

Activision hasn’t confirmed if more maps or additional squad sizes are coming, but this update already sets the stage for a more dynamic Battle Royale in Warzone moving forward.
