Warzone 2 Season 3 roadmap reveals that DMZ is in for a drastic overhaul

The Warzone 2 Season 3 roadmap has been revealed ahead of the new season and it promises a litany of brand new changes, including the DMZ mode getting a huge overhaul, and the return of a fan-favourite Warzone mode.

The Warzone 2 Season 3 roadmap gives us a look at what's in store over the next few months once the new season goes live this Wednesday, April 12. Most notably, DMZ mode is set for a full overhaul with the inclusion of new features such as a bartering system, and workbenches. Not only that, but Plunder mode from the original Warzone makes its return after being absent in the sequel.

The roadmap for Warzone 2 Season 3 was shared along with an in-depth breakdown of the upcoming season over on he Call of Duty Blog. DMZ players who like to hoard items will be able to take advantage of a brand new bartering system, which will be present in the game's Buy Stations.

You'll be able to trade unwanted items for valuables instead of using your precious cash. These trades are only available through the Buy Station, as the bartering system won't be available between players – although you can still drop items for your squad mates to use. The other major addition is the inclusion of Workbenches, which can be found near Buy Stations, that allows players to modify contraband weapons by adding or removing attachments.

There's also a new faction in town during DMZ matches, known only as REDACTED. This new faction brings its own set of faction missions, and two new bosses to test your mettle across the various exclusion zones. Warzone 2 Season 3 also adds two additional Active Duty Operator Slots, so you can have three separate operators set up to go at anytime. Activision promises a DMZ-specific blog post before the launch of Warzone 2 Season 3, which will feature info on new Backpack and Plate Carrier types.

Here's the Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Season 3 Roadmap (Activision)

The Warzone 2 Season 3 roadmap also reveals that Plunder, a mode featured in the original Warzone, will be making it's triumphant return – although it won't be included at the launch of the new season. Looking at the roadmap, Plunder will be coming to Warzone 2 later during the season.

Plunder is all about the Benjamins, as you and your team seek to become the richest squad, with the squad with the most cash coming out on top. Respawns are enabled in this mode, acting as a solid middle ground between the fast-paced action of Resurgence and the more calculated Battle Royale.

Hopefully these DMZ changes and the return of Plunder are enough to give the game a much needed injection of life, as player counts have been dwindling and prominent Call of Duty streamers like Dr Disrespect have seemingly given up on the game. We'll have to wait and see what happens when Warzone 2 Season 3 launches this week on Wednesday, April 12.
