Warzone 2 Resurgence map revealed – welcome to Ashika Island

The first Resurgence map for Warzone 2 is finally here, almost three months after the game was officially released.

Ashika Island is Warzone 2's first dedicated Resurgence map, in what will be the title's first Resurgence offering; a mode which is much-loved, and much-missed by the Call of Duty community. Players haven't been able to experience the popular mode since the launch of Warzone 2 in November last year, which also saw the removal of Rebirth Island and Fortune's Keep from the original Call of Duty: Warzone (which was later rebranded as Warzone Caldera).

The limited-time game mode offers a more fast-paced experience compared to battle royale, with eliminated players having the chance to re-enter the game quickly – providing their teammates stay alive for a short period of time. It was always a popular Warzone mode but following the underwhelming launch of the main Caldera map, which replaced Verdansk, it played a huge part in keeping the title well and truly on the map (pun intended).

Here's everything we know about Ashika Island so far.

Warzone 2 Resurgence map – Ashika Island

Warzone 2's first Resurgence map has a distinctly Japanese theme. From the name, to the POIs, the Cherry Blossom and the overall appearance, it seems that the leaks surrounding Season 2 turned out to be correct. These reports stated that Ronin, a katana-wielding Operator who was featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in 2019, will headline Season 2's artwork.

Here's our first look at the Ashika Island map in all its glory.

Warzone 2 Resurgence map revealed – welcome to Ashika Island (Activision/Call of Duty)

Ashika Island will launch on Wednesday, February 15, as part of the Warzone 2 Season 2 update. Interestingly, Call of Duty devs Infinity Ward has confirmed that the map will feature Resurgence and DMZ modes.

The seasonal refresh also brings changes to the Gulag, which will revert to a 1v1 battle, 3-Plate vests for everyone from the off, more Buy Stations, cheaper equipment, an additional loadout drop and more.

The following Ashika Island POIs have been confirmed::

  • Tsuki Castle (Castle POI)
  • Town Center
  • Beach Club
  • Underground Waterway
  • Oganikku Farms
  • Residential
  • Shipwreck
  • Port Ashika

Season 2 is also expected to bring weapon balancing and adjustments, as the meta hasn't really changed since the game's launch. Because the new season will include the introduction of customisable perk packages, there should be even more variety to the gameplay following the update, particularly with Infinity Ward disabling the Birdseye perk.

But, when it comes to Resurgence, we don't yet know if the mode will feature any significant gameplay changes compared to the battle royale and DMZ modes, although you would expect this to be the case considering how different the pacing is. We can't imagine the current looting system will suit Resurgence at all, so expect updates on this over the next few weeks, in the buildup to the launch of Warzone 2 Season 2.
