Warzone 2 Plunder: expected release date, rewards and new features

Plunder was first introduced back in the original Warzone but was missing in action for Warzone 2 at launch. Thankfully, its absence won't be for long, as it's set to arrive during Warzone 2 Season 3.

One of the best modes introduced during the lifetime of the original Warzone was Plunder, a unique mode – that has so far been absent in Warzone 2. The mode tasked teams with accruing $2 million cash the fastest, rather than being the last man standing. The mode has unlimited respawns, with the end goal being to reach $2 million and deposit it. Players can collect cash by eliminating other teams and looting them, as well as finding caches full of cash and completing contracts.

Obviously, you still don't really want to get taken out during these matches, but Plunder is generally a far more chill time than the inherently sweaty Battle Royale game mode, that's why I'm excited to hear of its return in Warzone 2 Season 3. However, the mode was sadly absent from the Warzone 2 Season 3 launch alongside the DMZ changes and the FJX Imperium one-shot sniper joining the game and is instead slated to launch in-season.

When is Plunder coming to Warzone 2?

Currently, a specific date for Plunder's arrival in Warzone 2 is yet to be confirmed, but based on previous updates, we have a pretty good idea of when we can expect it. We expect Plunder to be introduced to Warzone 2 around Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

So far during Warzone 2's lifespan, we've had mid-season updates in the form of Warzone 2 Season 1 Reloaded and Season 2 Reloaded, these Reloaded updates have been home to the most significant changes during a given season, so it's a safe bet to assume that Plunder and Warzone Ranked – both of which are listed as in season updates in the Warzone 2 Season 3 Roadmap – will arrive at the launch of Season 3 Reloaded.

But when is Warzone 2 Season 3 Reloaded launching? Again, there isn't an exact date confirmed just yet, however, based on past seasons we can make another safe assumption. Reloaded updates typically arrive at the midpoint of a given season, based on the in-game timer, we can expect Warzone 2 Season 4 on June 14, 2023, meaning we can expect Warzone 2 Season 3 Reloaded to arrive on or around Wednesday, May 10.

Hopefully, Raven Software give us a nice surprise and release the highly-anticipated game mode a bit early, but for now, we wouldn't expect to drop into plunder for a while yet.

Warzone 2 Plunder rewards

Activision has confirmed that nine unique challenges will arrive at the launch of Plunder in Warzone 2 – each with its own rewards. However, so far it hasn't been revealed what any of these challenges or rewards are specifically, with the only clue being a line on the Call of Duty Blog saying "Rewards from these challenges include a Vehicle Camo, Calling Cards, and more".

New features for Warzone 2 Plunder

Warzone 2's take on Plunder won't be a straight port from the original mode either, the new variant has some brand new in-game events that can change the course of a game. These are as follows:

  • Blood Money – Double money for eliminating and looting operators
  • Cannon Fodder
  • Contractor
  • Choke Hold

Activision is keeping its cards close to its chest on the latter three simply describing them as "[[REDACTED]]" presumably we'll learn more about them as we get closer to launch.

The post also detailed two new Buy Station options, which are as follows:

  • Credit Card – 10% cash back on any purchases
  • Life Insurance – Save 50% of your cash on hand when eliminated

Both of these seem like solid options because, as they say, you have to spend money to make money.
