The Golden State Warriors are just four victories away from returning to the NBA’s throne as league champions.
Before Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green will get the chance to hoist another Larry O’Brien trophy, the Warriors will have to go through the Boston Celtics in the 2022 edition of the NBA Finals.
After eliminating the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks in seven games, the Celtics are coming off another win in Game 7 by Eastern Conference finals MVP Jayson Tatum.
During the regular season, Tatum’s Celtics met the Warriors twice with each team taking home a victory on the road in the series. During their first battle in December 2021, the 14-14 Celtics were beat by the Warriors at TD Garden behind 30 points from Curry. Andrew Wiggins added 27 points in Golden State’s 111-107 win over Boston.
In final regular-season battle, the Celtics got revenge. Despite 29 points from Jordan Poole, the Celtics cruised to blowout 111-88 win at San Francisco’s Chase Center. Tatum and Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 26 points each while Marcus Smart tacked on 20 points.
Although the Celtics secured the win, the story of the game was Steph Curry’s injury. Curry left the contest in the second quarter after he appeared to suffer a foot injury after scrambling for a loose ball with Smart. Curry went on to miss the remaining 12 regular season games with a ligament injury in his foot.
