Warriors guard Stephen Curry left Saturday night’s game against the Mavericks in the third quarter with a leg injury and did not return. Even without Curry to end the game, Golden State defeated Dallas, 119-113, to get within a half game of Dallas for the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference.
The point guard was defending Dallas guard McKinley Wright IV when their knees collided on a Wright drive to the basket.
X-rays on Curry’s left leg came back negative, and he was set to get an MRI after the game. Warriors coach Steve Kerr was cautiously optimistic when discussing the injury with reporters after the game.
“Any time a guy gets an MRI, there’s a concern level,” Kerr said. “We’ll just have to wait and see the results. … This is not the first time. He plays hard and he’s all over the floor. This has happened many, many times over the years. So fingers crossed he’s OK.”
Curry missed 11 games earlier in the season with a shoulder injury, and he banged his left knee in a similar fashion in a game against the Nuggets on Thursday night.
In 38 games this year, Curry is averaging 29.4 points, 6.4 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game. He is slated to play in his eighth All-Star game later this month.
