Warrior Moms urge CPCB for strict ban on single-use plastics

BATHINDA: Warrior Moms, an environmental organisation representing concern mothers, from 32 cities across the country have urged the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to act tough and strictly implement ban on Single-Use Plastics.

Warrior Moms from four cities of Punjab Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Khanna, Doraha Apart from Chandigarh have written to CPCB stating that despite ban imposed since July 1, 2022 the single-use plastics continue to be available in the market, posing a threat to the environment and the health of citizens, particularly children. The letter emphasizes the non-biodegradable materials persist in ecosystems, clog drainage systems, pollute water bodies, and contribute to mounting landfills. Scientific studies have also established the link between plastic pollution and health risks, including respiratory problems, endocrine disruption, and even carcinogenic effects. The recent finding of microplastics in breast milk has raised concerns among mothers.

Warrior Moms have urged the CPCB to strengthen enforcement measures like Increasing surveillance and monitoring about banned single-use plastics. Strict penalties and fines should be implemented to deter non-compliance. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, raise public awareness by launching comprehensive awareness campaigns to educate the public about the detrimental effects of single-use plastics and promote sustainable alternatives, fostering innovation in the field of eco-friendly materials and packaging.
