Warning to Asda shoppers after fake email offers £1,000 gift card

A warning has been issued after almost 100 people received a fake email from Asda offering them the chance to win a £1,000 gift card.

The UK's national fraud and cyber reporting centre has issued a warning to shoppers after more than 97 reports of instances where people received a fake email.

The email pretended to be from supermarket giant Asda.

In it, shoppers were told they were in with the chance of winning a £1,000 gift card from the supermarket brand.

The UK's national fraud and cyber reporting centre shared the warning on its Twitter account.

They advised anyone who had received any suspicious emails or any contact that they were 'not quite sure about' to forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service via report@phishing.gov.uk.

The reports were made over the bank holiday weekend and in a tweet the fraud and cyber team said: "We have received over 97 reports about these FAKE Asda emails offering the chance to win a £1,000 gift card. If you have been sent an email which you’re not quite sure about, forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS):report@phishing.gov.uk #MulletOver "
