Merseyside Police issued an urgent warning to all road users who travel on the M62.
The force was called to a number of incidents on the M62 near The Rocket on Thursday, February 3.
Officers were forced to close the inside lane of the carriageway at around 3.30pm after a broken storm drain caused several vehicle tyres to blow out.

The council has since taken over the lane closure and repairs are taking place.
Merseyside Police is now warning road users to take extra care when using the motorway.
A spokesperson said: "Patrols have implemented a lane one closure on the M62 eastbound from the Rocket due to a broken storm drain cover that had punctured several vehicles tyres.
"We are waiting the attendance of the council to take over the closure so repairs can take place."
