Warning over Tesco trolley scam as £1,000 stolen from woman

A grandmother of seven has been left struggling to sleep after a distraction theft happened when criminals followed her in Tesco and swiped her bank card. She now wants to warn shoppers to be on their guard for sophisticated offenders carrying out similar crimes.

Lola Sledmere, aged 88, is urging everyone to always lock their car, no matter how far it is from the trolley bay, after her ordeal. She had £1,000 taken at various cashpoints as far as 47 miles from her home over the following two days. She was distracted by a man when she went to return her trolley in the car park of a Tesco Superstore and believes another offender sneaked into her car, just yards away, to take her card.

The grandmother of seven saw CCTV taken inside the supermarket which appeared to show a third criminal loiter behind her and watch her insert her PIN at the checkout, Express.co.uk reports.
