A warning has been issued to UK homeowners who spot a tiny silver insect inside their property. Silverfish are shiny silver insects and their presence could mean you have a very expensive problem.
Although the strange insects themselves are harmless, they may indicate an issue with your home. They love damp conditions and thrive around water and moisture, meaning you may have a damp problem.
As reported by The Mirror, you don't need to kill Silverfish and they won't damage your house. However, if you see one about it's likely there's moisture inside your property.

If left untouched, damp can cause a host of problems. It can crack bricks, rot joists and decay plaster, as well as trigger the spread of mould.
Damp can also destroy fabric and worsen air quality. It can be caused by a range of things, including ageing damp proofing or poor ventilation.
These issues usually develop around bathrooms or kitchens where a lot of water is naturally in the air. While the exact cause can sometimes be hard to pin down, spotting Silverfish indoors can be a sign that there's damp to be sorted out.
