Firefighters have issued advice to parents after children were seen playing on a frozen pond in Shirebrook. It comes after the tragedy in Solihull where four young boys died after they fell into an icy lake.
Crews at Shirebrook fire station said they received a call shortly before 8.10pm yesterday (December 14) about youngsters playing on a frozen pond at Shirebrook Leisure Centre. A spokesperson from the station said: "Thankfully the children had safely exited the pond.
"With the recent tragic incident that has taken place in the West Midlands, please remind your children of the danger of ice." A Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "Please speak to your children about the dangers of frozen ponds, lakes and reservoirs.

Last night, police said a six-year-old who was one of the four boys to fall into the icy lake in Solihull had died. The three others, aged eight, 10 and 11, who have also died were with the younger child at Babbs Mill Park, in Kingshurst, on Sunday.
West Midlands Police said it was with "heartfelt sadness" it had to report the six-year-old in hospital had "lost his fight for life". Hundreds of floral tributes and toys have been left at a site near the lake.
