Warning issued that stripped back X36 Ayrshire to Glasgow bus service won't survive

Stagecoach's Ayrshire to Glasgow bus service won't survive unless the operator adds an evening service, a West Scotland MSP has warned.

Katy Clark has written to Fiona Doherty, the managing director of Stagecoach, in a bid to add an evening service to the stripped-back route.

The X36 service previously offered a 9 pm trip but a revised timetable was put in place last month with the final bus now departing Glasgow at 5.15 pm.

Ms Clark has warned the last remaining bus connecting Garnock Valley with Glasgow is unlikely to survive unless operator Stagecoach extends service later in the evening.

She said: “Thanks to the hard work of residents, the X36 has been retained on a temporary basis.

“But there’s a real fear Stagecoach conclude the service simply isn’t sustainable because residents aren’t using the service throughout the day, misunderstanding commuting patterns.

“The previous timetable ran until past 9pm and I’m determined to find out why this has been so dramatically pulled back.

“Garnock Valley needs a reliable and affordable bus service, which runs at peak times and ensures they can get to and from work.

“The operator must come forward with a more realistic plan or the onus will be on SPT to fund this as an essential service.”

Stagecoach has said it is monitoring the route’s performance over the next six months to 'ensure it is sustainable'.
