Pancake Tuesday is just days away and ahead of one of the most anticipated holidays of the year, a warning has been issued for households to avoid one common mistake.
Every year on February 21, many households throughout the country end up making one mistake that costs them hundreds, and while it may seem like something unlikely, many people do it.
Nearly everyone ends up with some leftover batter and while people may just make a tiny pancake or others might put it back in the fridge until tomorrow. However, some people may look to pouring it down the sink as an easy way to use up the batter on Pancake Tuesday.

Common mistake
This is the last thing you should do, according to plumbing experts at Rated People, who explained that pancake batter contains flour, fat and oil and this is a recipe for disaster when it comes to drains as it can harden and cause burst pipes leading to costly repairs.
Speaking to RSVP Live, the plumbing experts said: "It's really important that people are aware of the damage that pouring leftover batter down the drain can do to your home. Pouring leftover pancake mix down the drain can also contribute to fatbergs in sewers.
"A fatberg is when fat and grease combine with unflushable items (such as wet wipes and cotton buds)."
What to do instead
What should you do instead of pouring it down the drain? There are lots of things you can do!
Instead of pouring it down the sink, you can freeze the batter to make pancakes again another time. Or you can also make Yorkshire puddings or use it to batter meat or fish.
Lastly, if you really do want to dump it. You should dispose of it in the bin not down the sink.
