Warning as change set to be made to main Merseyside road

A change is set to be introduced to one Merseyside road.

Sefton Council look set to pass the decision to introduce a police only parking bay on the Coastal Road in Ainsdale. The road, used by many to commute to and from work as well as those visiting Southport, will see the introduction of the bay funded by the Transportation Capital Programme.

The bay will cost approximately £1,000, and will be located at the Ainsdale end of the Coastal Road, 255 metres south east of Pinfold Lane.

It is recommended that: "The cabinet member approve the implementation of a traffic regulation order, the effect of which will introduce a ‘Police Only’ parking bay on the north-east side of Coastal Road, from a point 255 metres southeast of the projected southerly kerb line of Pinfold Lane, to a point 275 metres southeast of the projected southerly kerb line of Pinfold Lane."

Listed as the reason for the recommendation, the proposal said: "The council has the power to revoke a traffic regulation order (Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984) as well as the power to make a new traffic regulation order (Section 1 of that Act). Authorisation to advertise new traffic regulation orders falls under the remit of Cabinet Member Locality Services."

Last month, Merseyside Police were forced to hunt a driver after a crash on the Coastal Road in the early hours. A spokesperson for Merseyside police said at the time: "We received a report of a road traffic collision on the Coastal Road, in Southport, earlier this morning (Thursday 9 February). At around 2.30am, it was reported that a black BMW had collided with a number of bollards.

"When emergency services arrived at the scene, the driver had fled the area. The BMW has now been removed and the road has reopened. Our enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver."
