A list of ‘Warm Spaces’ - public venues where local people can keep warm instead of being cold at home - has been created.
Perth and Kinross Council has responded to the cost-of-living crisis by drawing up a list of public locations where citizens can go without question to feel welcome and warm.
Beginning with CPK’s libraries and adding to this village halls and churches, a number of points across the county where the heating’s on - sometimes with social activities and free refreshments - have been identified.
In Ward 10, Perth City South, the Warm Spaces are Dewars Centre, Glover Street, Perth Leisure Pool, Glasgow Road, Moncrieffe Community Centre, Glenlyon Road, Craigie and Moncreiffe Messy Church, Moncreiffe Church, Glenbruar Crescent, the last of which offers a warm space, refreshments plus activities.
In Perth City North, the council points people to go along to Letham Climate Challenge at 35-39 Garth Avenue, with a rail of warm clothes, open on Tuesdays from 10am-12.30pm and 1pm–3.15pm.
Other places to consider going are Letham Social Club, Marlee Road, Perth where you can find Letham4All, Mondays and Fridays 9am–6pm offering a warm space, Wi-Fi and refreshments.
Letham St Mark’s Church Centre in Rannoch Road is a warm space with refreshments, Thursdays 3pm-8pm.
Vitalityme CIC at Jeanfield Swifts Community Football Club, Riverside Stadium in Bute Drive is also open.
People in Perth City Centre can attend a number of heated public venues.
These are AK Bell Library in York Place, Perth Museum and Art Gallery in George Street, North Inch Community Library at North Inch Community Campus on Gowans Terrace, The Fergusson Gallery, Marshall Place, Perth Theatre on High Street, North Inch Community Campus, Gowans Terrace, Bell’s Sports Centre, Hay Street and YMCA Tayside at 25-29 Kinnoull Street, where its heated with refreshments for 16-25 year-olds four times a week.
Kinnoull Parish Church Hall at Riverside, provides a warm hub and refreshments in conjunction with Bridgend, Gannochy and Kinnoull Community Council.
Some other places to go are Social Flock at Perth CAB located at 7 Atholl Crescent and Perth Drama Club, based at 31 High Street where warm space, snacks/drinks and a community coat rail could be interesting.
Education Centre Bajka, Rose Terrace is welcoming for families.
On Wednesdays from 5pm-7pm, Trinity Church of the Nazarene at York Place would welcome visitors and has refreshments available. Other central warm spots are Perth Cathedral on North Methven Street and St John’s Episcopal Church, 32-34 Princes Street.
In Highland Perthshire, the council encourages people to visit Breadalbane Community Library and inside Live Active Community Campus in Aberfeldy.
Younger members (11-19 years old) can visit after school drop-ins, held three days a week, at The Breathe Project housed in Aberfeldy Parish Church.
Pitlochry Community Library at 26 Atholl Road and Live Active Atholl in West Moulin Road are two points in Pitlochry alongside Pitlochry Town Hall.
Holy Trinity Scottish Episcopal Church in Pitlochry hosts the Cosy Café, open on Thursdays, December to January, from 11am-3pm.
