Tonight's Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 showcase brought many an intriguing reveal and sneak peek – including a nearly ten-minute long look at Warlock, the next big Dungeons & Dragons-inspired video game to come after Baldur's Gate 3.
Late last year, D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast unveiled that it was working on a new open-world game dubbed Warlock – a game that features Tasha, an archmage and demonologist you might recognize from various other adventures in the Forgotten Realms. We've not seen too much of Warlock since, but the brand-new trailer highlighted today at Gamescom 2026 provides us with a solid eight minutes of the game – and I can't get enough.
At the beginning of the trailer, we get a good look at experienced warrior Kaatri and, of course, Tasha, who is also voiced by Maggie Robertson – the Maggie Robertson, who plays Orin the Red in Baldur's Gate 3 and Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village.
The new trailer is also letting us get to know the story of Warlock a bit better. As per Wizards of the Coast's description, Warlock follows Kaatri after she "makes a dangerous pact with Tasha to find someone she has lost."
As Kaatri, we'll "combine forbidden magic, spells, rituals, and otherworldly weapons to open paths, create advantages, uncover secrets, and defeat monsters creatively" – you know, D&D-style. The setting itself places us in Darkon, the largest domain in Ravenloft.
I'm impressed by the gameplay as well, with all of its gritty RPG vibes. It's giving Dragon's Dogma 2 in the best way possible, with D&D flair to boot. Hopefully, when Warlock arrives sometime in 2027, it delivers – and something tells me it will.
