War in Ukraine: Should the West cut remaining ties with Russia?

THE DEBATE © FRANCE 24

Would Russia really use nuclear weapons? The Kremlin's spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told CNN that that would only happen if Moscow faced an existential threat and certainly not in the current campaign in Ukraine. Is that simply stating the obvious, or should we worry?

Last month, on the eve of the invasion of Ukraine, Vladimir Putin made a thinly-veiled threat to the West if they tried to stop him. After recent Russian war games that included the eventuality of nuclear war and as some European nations stockpile iodine pills, would Putin really dare to go where neither side went during the Cold War?

We also ask our guests about the West's resolve in the wake of Volodymyr Zelensky's speech before the French parliament and ahead of Joe Biden's arrival in Europe for summits with leaders of NATO, the G7 and EU.

Produced by Juliette Laurain, Sophie Pizzimenti and Melissa Kalaydjian.
