Wapping Wharf announces Christmas lights switch-on date and late night shopping

Wapping Wharf has confirmed the date of its Christmas lights switch-on promising a "very special" event this year. Businesses will be lighting up their shop fronts in the Cargo development next week and staying open for late-night shopping.

Festivities have swept over the city in the last week starting with the arrival of Bristol Christmas Market in Broadmead. Propyard has also opened its city centre ice rink as part of a new festive attraction called Winterland as well as the launch of a pop-up apres ski bar.

This year's harbourside event will be held next Thursday (November 17) kicking off at 5.30pm with carols and traders will be illuminating their shop fronts from 6.30pm. Shops will remain open until 8pm for late-night shopping, whilst bars and restaurants will serve diners later as per their regular opening hours.

Wapping Wharf's team said: "Join us on Thursday, November 17 for our annual Christmas Light Switch On and a special evening of festivities from 5.30-8pm, where we'll be bringing you traditional Christmas Carols from Bristol Cathedral Choir, late-night shopping at our many local, independent shops alongside plenty of festive food and drink!"

Residents will be able to keep warm and enjoy a festive tipple with a mulled wine from Corks, hot spiced cider from Cider Box or a mulled Sangria from Gabas. Cargo Cantina will be serving Meszcal mince pies washed down with a mince pie margarita.

There will also be seasonal tasters from Better Food and Clifton Seafood Company. Other traders will remain open for late night shopping and plenty of delicious seasonal food and drink options to choose from across the Wapping Wharf community.

It's sure to bring some sparkle down to the harbourside at a much-needed time for traders in the area. Businesses in the Wapping Warf community have been impacted by the closure of Gaol Ferry Bridge over the past few months. Woky Ko recently closed both of its Cargo sites citing rising costs and low footfall as reasons for its decision.

Wapping Wharf's Christmas Lights switch-on is on Thursday, November 17, 5.30pm-8pm
