Wanted Murder Suspect on the Run for Years Picked Up by Police After Roommate Kicked Him Out

A man on the run for years wanted for allegedly killing his brother picked up from police states away on the side of the highway after he was kicked out by his roommate.

The Texas man, 39-year-old Kyle Coolack, was found living in Iowa after his roommate learned Sunday that he was wanted for murder, as reported by KEYC.

Eddy Mason met Coolack after seeing him with a "veteran needing work" sign. Mason reportedly supplied Coolack with a place to live, food and even work for the past week, until he learned that the man was not who he said he was.

"I got woke up this morning by a message saying I need to get my roommate out of the house. He was a murderer on the run. I immediately got up and I confronted him, and that's when he looked at me and said, 'Yeah, I shot my brother,'" Mason told KEYC.

Mason contacted the sheriff's office after telling Coolack to leave, who picked him up off the side of the highway. Deputies said Coolack initially gave them a fake name before allegedly admitting his real identity, as reported by KPRC.

Coolack's brother, 35-year-old Brad Coolack, was found shot multiple times in his Houston apartment in March 2022. At the time, police said witnesses heard two people fighting before multiple gunshots were fired.

Kyle Coolack was identified as the suspect, and murder charges were filed against him in July 2022. A $5,000 reward had been offered for his arrest through the Houston Crime Stoppers.

Coolack is currently being held in jail while he awaits extradition back to Texas.
