SEATTLE - Perhaps the dream of playing for your country at a World Cup didn't pan out as expected, but you might still have a chance at being part of the biggest sporting event in the world. FIFA announced 62 job openings ahead of the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Soccer's governing body has launched a search for people interested in taking part in the event, with jobs ranging from management positions, broadcast options and even ticket sales coordinators.
Just like earning a spot in a team's World Cup squad list, getting a job at the next World Cup won't be easy, as hundreds of candidates are expected to fill out the applications. Individuals interested in applying to any of FIFA's openings are encouraged to do so via the organization's LinkedIn page, as the information and requisites for each position will be shared there. Although some of the openings are full-time and contractual offers, a good amount of volunteering opportunities can also be found there.
If for some reason none of the positions available are a good fit for you, FIFA's volunteering program is always a good way to still be part of the event. Candidates interested in learning more about these opportunities can access the form online. They need to be 18 years of age or older and speak English in order to be considered for any of the positions offered.
The first step of the process is to complete the application form for the FIFA tournament that you wish to join. The application will then be evaluated and successful candidates will be invited for an interview. If an offer is made and accepted, candidates will then be assigned to a role based on the application and any relevant experience.
A training period is required in order to perform the role at any FIFA event. Some of them require a commitment for the duration of the tournament, but, in some cases, they can start up to a month before and finish a few days after the conclusion of the event.
You will be required to complete all required training in order to perform your volunteer role at the FIFA tournament as these sessions will provide you with key information about the tournament and your volunteering role.
With a little more than two years until the biggest World Cup in history kicks off in Mexico City, the US-Mexico-Canada joint tournament is expected to be an event like something we never seen before. Between June 11 and July 19 of 2026, 48 teams will compete for the trophy in 16 different host cities. Mexico's Estadio Azteca was selected as the venue to host the inaugural game while the final will be played at New York/New Jersey's MetLife Stadium.
