Western Sydney Wanderers coach Marko Rudan wants to secure a forward in the upcoming transfer window after a foreign player spot became available on his roster.
Wanderers midfielder Milos Ninkovic recently gained Australian citizenship. After the A-League Men one-all draw with Brisbane Roar on Friday night Rudan said that had paved the way for him to get on the front foot with his plans.
"I am pretty proactive. As soon as Milos got his citizenship...that process was started," Rudan said.
"I have been talking to a fair few players for a couple of months now. It never stops. That's football. You've got to move on and keep moving on. You've got no time to think and no time to waste."
The Wanderers have been outstanding defensively this season, conceding just seven goals, but they have only scored eight.
Rudan said after the draw in Redcliffe that "both teams this year haven't really set the world alight in terms of goal scoring".
Rudan said the Wanderers had made "an OK start" to the season. Another quality attacking option would take the side to another level.
"We are looking forward, and looking to bring a new player in when the window opens that's for sure," he said.
"I want to bring in another new player in the attacking third. I want to put pressure on those (current) guys. Our bench was full of young players...and they were good when they came on."
The Roar also have a foreign player spot available after former Premier League striker Charlie Austin recently returned to England.
Roar coach Warren Moon said during the week, when asked about Austin's replacement, that someone who ideally scored goals and fitted in with the Roar style would be the target. The recent transfer of midfielder Jesse Daley to Cavalry FC in the Canadian Premier League has opened up another position.
"The club has been great on this. We have spoken about this. We are looking at our options," Moon said after Friday night's draw, when asked about replacements for Austin and Daley.
"We are definitely on the front foot with this and... we are very calm about the situation and know what we want to do and what we want to bring in. We will assess all our options and, when the time is right, we will make our moves."
