Walton Road closed and woman in hospital after car crashes into chippy

A woman was taken to hospital after a Peugeot SUV hit the front of a fish and chip shop in north Liverpool.

The emergency services were called out to Walton Road in Kirkdale at around 9.20am today following reports of an accident.

Police said that an SUV hit the front of a shop on Walton Road.

A woman was taken to hospital although police said her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

Photographs taken at the scene showed that the SUV had hit the shutters at the front of a fish and chip takeway on Walton Road. The shop did not appear to have been damaged.

Police closed the section of Walton Road near the junction with Spellow Lane.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to the sene of a one vehicle road traffic collison at around 9.20am today on Walton Road. A woman was taken to hospital. The section of road has been closed."

The spokesman added that the woman's injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
