Walmart Agrees To Pay $50M in DOJ Settlement Over Alleged Opioid Prescriptions at Its Pharmacies

Walmart agrees to pay $50 million to settle a federal lawsuit claiming its pharmacies filled illegal prescriptions that fueled the opioid crisis.

Walmart has agreed to pay $50 million (roughly equivalent to €42.5 million or £38 million) to settle a Justice Department lawsuit accusing its pharmacies of unlawfully filling thousands of invalid prescriptions for opioids and other controlled substances, the department announced on Friday.

The agreement resolves a case first brought against the retailer in December 2020 and closes one of the most significant single company actions to emerge from America's opioid crisis.
