The United States men’s soccer team has unveiled its roster for the upcoming Paris Olympics, marking their return to the prestigious event after a 16-year absence. The squad, led by coach Marko Mitrovic, comprises a mix of rising talents and seasoned players, including overage stars Walker Zimmerman, Miles Robinson, and Djordje Mihailovic.
The men’s Olympic soccer tournament, unlike the women’s competition, is limited to players under 23 years old, with the provision for three overage participants. Zimmerman, Robinson, and Mihailovic are set to bring their experience and leadership to the team as they aim to make a mark on the global stage.
The roster features representatives from 15 different clubs, with a significant presence from Major League Soccer. Notable inclusions are Gianluca Busio and Tanner Tessmann, who recently played pivotal roles in Venezia's promotion to Serie A.
With 15 players having already earned caps for the full U.S. men’s national team, the squad boasts a wealth of international experience. Zimmerman, in particular, stands out with 42 senior appearances to his name, having been part of the U.S. squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Coach Mitrovic expressed his excitement about the team, emphasizing their dedication and the pride they feel in representing their country at the Olympics. The players, many of whom have progressed through the American soccer system, are eager to fulfill their dreams on the Olympic stage.
The U.S. men’s team will kick off their Olympic campaign in Group A, facing tough opponents such as France, New Zealand, and Guinea. The tournament is scheduled to take place from July 24 to August 9 across various cities in France.
Preparations for the Paris Games will see the team training at FC Girondins de Bordeaux before moving to Marseille ahead of their opening match against France. The U.S. men’s best Olympic finish came in 2000 when they secured fourth place in Sydney.
The squad is composed of two goalkeepers, six defenders, five midfielders, and five forwards, with four additional players listed as alternates to provide depth and support throughout the tournament.
