Wales will defy FIFA by wearing the One Love rainbow armband during their World Cup campaign.
The tournament organisers had hoped teams would not take political stands during the course of the global showpiece. It comes as the governing body released their own armbands little more than 24 hours before the opening fixture of the competition between hosts Qatar and Ecuador.
Their new armbands include slogans such as #FootballUnitesTheWorld and #ProtectChildren with the sole aim being to address social issues.

However, Wales - along with Group B opponents England - have chosen to go against FIFA's orders by opting to wear the One Love armband throughout the competition.
It means both Gareth Bale and Harry Kane will wear the One Love band on their arms in Qatar, with both the Football Association of Wales and the English FA putting themselves at risk of being fined by FIFA in doing so.
Speaking about the topic at a press conference ahead of Wales' flight to Doha, Bale said: "Us as footballers, it's been a difficult subject to talk about. We can shed a light on problems that are going on.
"We've spoken to the FAW, they've been speaking to the Welsh Government who have been speaking to Qatar and FIFA in working on these issues.
"For us as players we are fully behind it and support everything we can do. Us as footballers, the most we can do is make awareness and it's for people higher up to hopefully make change for the better. We support everything in terms of the armband and we'll be doing as much as we can to hopefully get change in the right way."
The FAW have not issued a statement to confirm their stance on wearing the One Love armband, although the English FA said on Saturday: "We respect the FIFA armband but we are committed to the One Love armband and intend to wear it."
The One Love campaign aims to "promote inclusion and send a message against discrimination of any kind". The armbands will be worn to promote inclusivity within a country which has laws against same-sex relationships.
Wales kick-start their campaign against the United States of America on Monday. Kick-off is at 7pm (UK time).
