Banned Wales winger Alex Cuthbert could take advantage of a new World Rugby clause to make himself available to face Ireland on February 5.
Cuthbert has picked up a three week ban from EPCR's disciplinary panel after he was cited for a dangerous tackle during the Ospreys' Champions Cup meeting with Racing 92 last weekend.
The 31-year-old was named in the Wayne Pivac's 36-strong Wales squad on Tuesday.
But punishment has been meted out following his yellow card for a high tackle on Racing's Teddy Baubigny in the Ospreys' 25-10 defeat in Swansea. He was cited by Irish citing commissioner Peter Ferguson for the sixth minute tackle under Law 9.13.
Cuthbert, who made a submission to the independent disciplinary committee, was initially handed a six-week ban for making contact with Baubigny's head and neck area.
However the ban was halved as the player accepted he had committed an act of foul play and because of his clear disciplinary record.
His ban is to run until Monday, February 7 - two days after Ireland host Wales at the Aviva Stadium.
However if Cuthbert applies for a World Rugby Coaching Intervention, his ban would see him miss the Ospreys' games over the next fortnight but return in time for the Ireland clash.
The intervention is a new programme for players found guilty of a red card offence for head contact to work with their coach on their tackle technique.
