Wales football star Jess Fishlock announces she is engaged

Wales' most-capped footballer Jess Fishlock has announced she is engaged.

The Champions League winner, Cardiff native and Wales midfield magician, 35, revealed the happy news that she is engaged to American footballer and OL Reign team-mate Tziarra King on social media on Monday.

Sharing two snaps and a video, Fishlock and King could both be seen beaming in one photo while the Wales star held a card saying "you're en-gay-ged!" Another picture showed the happy couple share a kiss underneath a balloon banner bearing the word "love". Fishlock captioned the post by saying: "For life".

Fishlock has headed back to the States following Wales heartbreak, with Gemma Grainger's side missing out on a first-ever major tournament appearance at next year's World Cup after losing to Switzerland in their play-off final last Tuesday. Having sat out Wales' final two regular qualifiers through injury, Fishlock was pivotal in ensuring a maiden run to the play-off final thanks to her match-winning goal against Bosnia-Herzegovina in the semi-final in Cardiff earlier this month.

After that moment of magic sealed a play-off final, Fishlock could be seen rushing to greet her family and King at Cardiff City Stadium, sharing a special embrace with her now fiancée. Fishlock said on social media at the time: "Thank you so much for flying over. Your constant support for me is one of the best feelings I’ve ever had. Now you know what the Welsh are about. I love you."

King, 24, was also on hand to celebrate with Fishlock and her family in the Welsh capital back in July when she was given an honorary fellowship by Cardiff University.

The pair play their club football together in Seattle in America's National Women's Soccer League, widely regarded as the best women's football competition in the world to rival England's Women's Super League. In recent weeks, the duo helped OL Reign finish the regular season in first place to win the NWSL Shield.
