Wakefield fire: 80 firefighters battle huge blaze with residential houses nearby

Firefighters are battling a huge blaze on an industrial estate with reports of explosions being heard.

Large billows of smoke can be seen rising into the sky above massive flames at a warehouse complex in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

There are several houses very close to the scene, off Dale Street in Ossett.

Photos show the warehouse building involved has been completely gutted by the blaze, reports YorkshireLive.

Video footage contains a fierce crackling and bright orange flames, along with the silhouettes of chimneys from neighbouring residential properties.

A total of 80 firefighters in 14 fire engines were dispatched just before 8.20pm.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed two businesses at the industrial estate have been affected, with 100 per cent of the warehouse building destroyed.

"People are blocking the drive to watch what's going off and more are people walking around than on a busy day.

"I'm scared for anyone close by and hope everyone stays safe and smart.

"People are still driving down the road, over the fire hoses to just be turned around. People should avoid Dale Street if they can."

Yorkshire Water Help tweeted: "#Ossett #WF5.

"Apologies to customers experiencing no water or low pressure. The Fire Service are in the area tackling a large fire."
