Premium UK supermarket chain Waitrose has issued an urgent recall for two packets of frozen prawns that they have said are "unsafe to eat".
An alert from The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has found that the supermarket's Frozen Cooked & Peeled Jumbo King Prawns and Essential Frozen Cooked King Prawns contain raw, uncooked prawns. The FSA alert has said that Waitrose has issued the recall as a "precautionary measure" in response to the potential presence of uncooked prawns.
Due to the risk of food poisoning, including salmonella, it is advised that prawns and many other shellfish are not undercooked or eaten raw.
As a result, shoppers are being urged to not consume the products and to return them to the store where they were bought for a full refund.

Best before: End: all dates up, to and including, June 2023.
Essential Frozen Cooked King Prawns
Pack size: 250g
Batch code: VN394
Best before: End: all dates up to, and including, February 2024.

Waitrose has said: We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused."
