W Series CEO Catherine Bond Muir is hopeful the championship can overcome its current financial difficulties and continue in its current format.
The 2022 Series is due to conclude later this month but there are doubts over whether the next race can be held in Austin, Texas. The all-female competition takes place on the same circuits as the F1 across the same weekends - but does not share anywhere near the same wealth and faces an uncertain future in the current climate.
"Getting to Austin has become increasingly difficult because we budgeted US Dollars a year ago and because of the devaluation of the pound we have hit increasing problems," Bond Muir told BBC Radio 4. "We hope it is going to go ahead. But there are lots of factors that are adversely affecting us."
Bond Muir has confirmed there has been a high amount of interest in the W Series as reports of the financial issues came to light.
And she is hopeful that the competition will be able to overcome its problems and provide a platform for women in motorsport.
She added: "We're an all-female motor racing series and we all know the problems that female sport has when you compare it to its male counterparts.
"Women's sport has, in a very high profile way, lagged behind. My belief is that in future years that differential will narrow. It's tough for everyone at the moment but lots of people are supporting women's sport generally.
"Where I sit now at the moment, given this inbound interest, we are running a process and I remain very optimistic that we are going to be around next year and that we can continue supporting women in motorsport."
