Vulnerable Scots woman missing in Naples found after local heard her screaming for mum

A vulnerable Scots woman who disappeared three days ago while on a family holiday in Italy was found after a local heard her screaming for her mum.

Lisa Cairns went missing from an apartment in Palazzo Mastelloni, in Naples, around 8am on Tuesday after telling her family she wanted to go on a walk to get some fresh air.

The 44-year-old, who suffers from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, did not take her medication with her or any belongings.

Relieved mum Florence Jenkins, 68, confirmed she had been found in the early hours of Friday morning and was being checked over by medical staff.

She said a local had heard Lisa screaming for her mum and alerted the police. Lisa had been missing for three days without food and water.

Her mum said she was traumatised but safe and will not be allowed to fly home till next week.

Florence said: "She is exhausted and dehydrated. She has not had any water or anything to eat for three days and her mental health is not good.

"She is traumatised at the moment so she is not able to fly home till next week."

She added: "A big thank you to everyone that helped us to get through our ordeal. I don’t have enough words to say how grateful we all are.

"A big thank you to friends, the people of Naples - who are the nicest and helpful people - the papers that got involved and all the media, including Pepe and his wife that reported this.

"The police and medical staff that attended Lisa, Viv and me early this morning, thanks to Lawrence from the British Consulate and Anna, our host, were absolutely fabulous.

"She was our rock through all of this and also the lady beside our flat, our new host Claudio’s mum, that called the police when she heard Lisa screaming mum."

Lisa, from Dundee, had vanished from the holiday apartment while her sister Nicola, 42, was in the bathroom.

The family were due to fly back home on Tuesday but they managed to extend their stay and find new lodgings as they desperately scoured the area for any sign of Lisa.
