A voting location in Gwinnett County, Georgia, housing two polling precincts was evacuated for approximately an hour today following a bomb threat. The Mountain Park Aquatic Center, which accommodates two of the county's 156 precincts, was cleared at 12:44 p.m. ET as confirmed by the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Authorities stated that after speaking with employees and polling workers, no suspicious activity was observed, leading to the reopening of the location. A subsequent check by a crew found normal activity at the center, which is now fully operational. Voters currently casting their ballots were reportedly unaware of the earlier incident.
Sammy Baker, the GOP chair in Gwinnett County, mentioned witnessing police bomb-sniffing dogs entering the facility. He noted that the center was closed for approximately an hour during the evacuation process.
Heather May, an investigator with the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, indicated that there are plans to file a motion with a judge to extend the voting hours at this specific location.
