In a surprising upset at the Australian Open, Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova was knocked out of the tournament in the first round on Monday. She was defeated in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, by Dayana Yastremska.

Vondrousova, the seventh seed in the tournament, had skipped the Adelaide tune-up event due to a hip injury. This absence seemed to have affected her performance as she struggled on serve throughout the match. The Czech player hit a total of seven double faults, giving Yastremska the opportunity to take control of the game. As the 93rd-ranked player in the world, Yastremska was determined to prove herself and did so convincingly.

Yastremska's victory over Vondrousova is particularly noteworthy as she had faced early elimination in her last seven Grand Slam appearances. The Ukrainian player displayed an impressive level of play, hitting 26 winners and consistently outperforming her opponent.

In other action on the early rounds of the Australian Open, 19th-seeded Elina Svitolina secured her spot in the second round with a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 win against Australian wild-card entry, Taylah Preston. Svitolina demonstrated her strong form and dominance throughout the match, proving why she is considered one of the top contenders in the tournament.

Later in the day, fans eagerly anticipated the debut matches of two prominent players. Coco Gauff, the rising star who captured the world's attention with her impressive performance at the U.S. Open last September, faced off against Anna Karolina Schmiedlova of Slovakia. The match showcased the young American's potential as she sought to make her mark on the Australian Open.

Equally highly-anticipated was the return of four-time major winner Naomi Osaka. Following the birth of her daughter, the Japanese player made her comeback to Grand Slam tennis and faced Caroline Garcia of France in the first round on the center court. Fans and analysts alike were eager to see Osaka reclaim her position among the elite players in the game.

The Australian Open promises to deliver plenty of excitement and surprises in the days to come. With the early elimination of Vondrousova, the competition has already showcased the unpredictable nature of tennis and the potential for underdogs to triumph over established champions. As the tournament progresses, fans will be treated to exhilarating matches and thrilling moments, demonstrating once again why the Australian Open is considered one of the most prestigious events on the tennis calendar.
