Volvo's new Recharge plug-in hybrid powertrain upgraded

Volvo Cars Thailand's latest offering, the Recharge plug-in hybrid, features an upgraded powertrain to continue the brand's tradition of providing plug-in hybrid enthusiasts with the best possible driving experience. The new long-range battery, available in the 90 and 60 Series models in Thailand, will greatly increase the driving range, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, boost performance and enhance the vehicle's overall drivability.

With the updated and upgraded hybrid powertrain, Volvo Cars have increased the anticipated pure electric range to between 76km and 98km on a single charge. It can also reach 100kph in as little as 4.5sec thanks to its powerful engine. The turbocharged T8 petrol engine gets overhauled alongside the rest of the drivetrain for better efficiency and output. This ensures a more refined electrified drive with lower CO2 tailpipe emissions and increases engine power at low rpm and during acceleration.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain of the Recharge has been upgraded with a new long-range battery that has a third layer of cells to increase nominal energy from 11.6kWh to 18.8kWh, as well as a more powerful rear electric motor that now delivers 143hp. Other improvements include a longer range for the vehicle. These Recharge T8 vehicles have a total combined output of 460hp due to the added electric power, which establishes them as the most powerful automobiles Volvo has ever manufactured.

The line-up of upgrades includes the addition of a "creep mode", which can help make driving more smooth and natural. The function can help when moving slowly, like when waiting in traffic or in a parking lot. When the function is on, the car will move slowly in the direction chosen without the driver having to use the accelerator pedal. This feature will first be available on the plug-in hybrid Volvo XC60 and S90 Recharge.

The new powertrain will be available on all plug-in hybrid Volvo Recharge vehicles that are based on the Scalable Product Architecture. These models include the Volvo S60, V60, XC60 and XC90 Recharge models.
