Vodafone UK has revealed that they will make WiFi available for their customers travelling on the London Underground once again.
The company offered internet access to its users via a wholesale network run by Virgin Media in the past but scrapped the offering back in 2021. It was replaced by a paid service that cost £3 a day or £15 a month.
Now, the network provider says its service has been improved and relaunched in response to customer demand. The WiFi connection will be provided by the BAI Communications service platform, giving Vodafone users access across more than 260 Tube stations. Talking about the relaunch, the company’s UK Chief Network Officer, Andrea Dona, said: “Our customers who regularly use the Tube have told us that having access to WiFi is extremely important to them, so we’ve listened and reactivated the service on a new, more reliable system, that is easy-to-use and provides a seamless experience.
“Alongside our newly-arrived 4G and 5G signal, we hope the new service will ensure our customers have the connection they want and expect while travelling across the capital.”

The scheme has been welcomed by Transport for London as well, with its Chief Customer Officer, Mark Evers, saying: “It is great that Vodafone customers are now able to benefit again from free WiFi at London Underground stations, which has been a massive benefit for those using the Tube for more than 10 years.”
The social media reactions to the announcement have been positive, with some customers admitting that the main reason they had left Vodafone in the past was because of their lack of internet connection on the Tube.
TfL’s goal is to offer Tube customers mobile phone signal and internet connection within every London Underground station and tunnel by the end of 2024, rolling out uninterrupted 5G coverage. This will allow customers to send and receive calls and texts, go online, and stay up to date with their emails and social media feeds while travelling.
