Arsenal Women striker Vivianne Miedema has signed a new contract extension at the club. The deal puts an end to speculation linking her with a move to Spanish outfit Barcelona Femeni.
A statement on the club's website read: "We are delighted to announce that Vivianne Miedema has signed a new deal with the club. Vivianne joined us from Bayern Munich in 2017 and has since scored 117 goals in just 144 appearances, including 23 in 39 appearances in the recent 2021/22 season.
"She was part of the Arsenal side that won the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in the 2018/19 season, and also helped us to lift the FA Women's Continental Tyres League Cup in the 2017/18 campaign. The 25-year-old Dutch forward is the all-time top-scorer in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and topped the league goalscoring charts in 2018/19 and 2019/20.

"Vivianne has twice been included in the FIFA FIFPRO Women's World 11 and was also named BBC Women's Footballer of the Year in 2021. Meanwhile, at international level, Vivianne was part of the Netherlands team that won the UEFA Women's European Championship in 2017 and finished second at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019."
Miedema responded by explaining that she loves playing where she currently is and that any trophy she wins with Arsenal will mean a lot more to her than winning something elsewhere.
“I think the most beautiful thing about the game is building something with a team and with people around you that you really want to be around,” she said.
“I do feel like I have got that at Arsenal. I feel like for me, winning titles with Arsenal will mean a lot more to me than winning them with another club at the moment. And that’s what I obviously hope to achieve with Arsenal.”
Miedema is arguably the best striker in world football and signing her to a new deal is a massive statement from Arsenal as they look to go one step further by beating Chelsea to the WSL title next season.
