A spokesperson for Alton Towers confirmed that the incident was not related to the safety of the ride. The person who fell ill 'required assistance' and was helped by medics, the spokesperson added.

The theme park has spoken with their family 'to wish them a speedy recovery'. In a statement, the Alton Towers spokesperson said: "Medical assistance arrived on site to help with a guest who fell ill during their visit and required assistance.

"The safety and wellbeing of our guests is always our top priority and we have spoken with the family to wish the guest a speedy recovery. This was in no way related to the safety of our rides and attractions."
