Ready to learn more about VisionQuest, aka the final live-action Marvel TV show of 2026? You and me both.

Indeed, with San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2026 right around the corner — at the time of this article's latest update — anyway, I'm fully expecting a boatload of new details about the Paul Bettany-led Disney+ series. Any chance of showing us a trailer, Marvel?

Before the comic giant potentially reveals more on the official news front, you might be interested in seeing what we already know about it. So, read on to get the latest on its release date, likely cast, and more.

VisionQuest release date

In May, Marvel announced VisionQuest would make its Disney+ debut on Tuesday, October 14. Prior to that, we only knew it would come out sometime before the end of 2026.

Currently, there's no word on how many episodes will be released on launch day, nor whether it'll premiere on that date globally. Once I know more, I'll inform you, dear reader.

VisionQuest trailer: is there one?

Nope. VisionQuest's first footage was shown at New York Comic-Con 2025, but hasn't been released to the public.

Regardless, I'd be shocked if Marvel doesn't drop a teaser at SDCC in late July. Once one is released, I'll update this section.

VisionQuest cast: who's involved?

Full spoilers follow for WandaVision and Avengers: Infinity War. Possible spoilers also follow for VisionQuest.

Here's the show's confirmed cast so far:

  • Paul Bettany as White Vision
  • James Spader as Ultron
  • James D'Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S
  • Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y
  • Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H
  • Henry Lewis as D.U.M.-E
  • Jonathan Sayer as U
  • Todd Stashwick as Paladin
  • Ruaridh Mollica as Thomas Shepherd
  • Diane Morgan as TBC
  • Lauren Morais as TBC

Bettany, who's played Vision since the superpowered humanoid's live-action debut in 2014's Avengers: Age of Ultron, hasn't been seen in the MCU since he played two versions of Vision in WandaVision.

Confused? Let me explain. One was a fabricated version of Vision that a grief-stricken Wanda Maximoff inadvertently created using her powers post-Avengers: Endgame. The other – aka White Vision – is a reprogrammed version of the real Vision's soul-less body, which was reanimated by the nefarious government agency known as S.W.O.R.D.

Long story short: WandaVision's finale saw White Vision regain his original memories from the Wanda-created iteration before flying off to whereabouts unknown, so White Vision will be VisionQuest's protagonist. However, he won't be the only android, robot, or artificial intelligence that'll appear in this Marvel Phase 6 TV show.

Spader, who played the menacing Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron, will reprise his role as the villainous android despite his death at Vision's hands in said film. It's unclear what role he'll play here, but Variety has reported Ultron will show up in his original form and as a human character.

Meanwhile, human versions of Tony Stark's first AI assistant J.A.R.V.I.S, its successor F.R.I.D.A.Y, and E.D.I.T.H – the AI program in the sunglasses Stark posthumously gave to Tom Holland's Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home – are also set to feature.

Elsewhere, Lewis and Sayer have lent their voices to two robots in D.U.M-E and U. The silent machines helped Stark create his various Iron Man suits in the superhero's solo movie trilogy, so it'll be fascinating to see how and why they can talk now.

As for the last two cast members, they gave VisionQuest's cast an unusual upgrade when reports indicated they'd landed mystery roles in this show.

Lastly, where Stashwick and Mollica are concerned, potentially big spoilers immediately follow for who they'll portray. Full spoilers are incoming for Agatha All Along and Doctor Strange 2, too.

Per industry leaker DanielRPK (via Reddit), Paladin is an assassin who'll pursue White Vision for his advanced tech. Showrunner Terry Matalas confirmed he's part of the proceedings at Creation Entertainment Con (per ParksandCons) in late 2025.

Meanwhile, fans believe the real identity of Mollica's character is Tommy Maximoff, aka Speed, aka one of Wanda and Vision's twin sons.

Tommy was last seen in WandaVision (albeit as a child) and referenced by Wiccan, aka Billy Maximoff, in Agatha All Along. In fact, Billy's entire story arc in the latter series centered on finding Tommy. As I covered in my Agatha All Along ending explainer, that series ended with Billy — plus Agatha Harkness' ghost in tow — continuing the search for his sibling. It's possible, then, that one or both character could cameo here.

Locke's involvement sounds likely, too. During a chat with fans about Clarkston, a stage play Locke and Mollica are involved in, director Jack Serio, let slip that the actors filmed scenes together for a project where they play brothers (thanks to X/Twitter user sand12345678901 for the revelation). Coincidence? I think not.

VisionQuest won't be a full family reunion without Elizabeth Olsen showing up as Wanda/Scarlet Witch, though, so will she show up? Wanda seemingly died in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but we didn't see one of the MCU's most powerful beings actually perish, so there's a good chance she's not only alive, but that this show will feature Olsen in some capacity.

Lastly, Deadline has claimed T'Nia Miller (Foundation, The Fall of the House of Usher) is secretly involved as Jocasta. In the comics, she's an android initially built to become Ultron's wife. However, Jocasta rebels against her supervillain status and ends up becoming an ally of The Avengers, so it'll be interesting to eventually see how and why she's involved.

VisionQuest story speculation

VisionQuest is reportedly set one year after the events of WandaVision (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Possible spoilers follow for VisionQuest.

VisionQuest's plot brief hasn't been revealed, but some broad story strokes have been teased, including the fact that, per the website of production designer Will Hughes-Jones, it'll comprise eight episodes.

Speaking to Rotten Tomatoes at NYCC 2025, Bettany revealed it's set one year after WandaVision. And, during Marvel's panel at the convention, Bettany dropped more hints about its plot.

"What’s different about Vision right now is that Red Vision gave White Vision all of his memories, including the memories from within the Hex," he said (per Marvel.com) "But, White Vision is having real difficulty connecting to them, so he has the memories, but he doesn’t have the emotions and the feelings, and I think that’s what the journey is. White Vision’s journey during the show is about his attempt to connect to those memories and who he was… but with lasers!"

Elsewhere, speaking on the Katie Sackhoff Show, Matalas suggested VisionQuest offers the opportunity to "elevate" MCU canon and/or even course-correct specific characters' journeys. Predictably, Matalas also dodged a question about Wanda's possible appearance and the true identity of Mollica's character.

Given the internal struggle that White Vision will be plagued by in the show's early entries, it wouldn't be a shock if VisionQuest follows WandaVision's lead and sees its titular character create his own pocket reality. If that happens, the show could cherry-pick elements from Tom King's 12-issue Vision comic book series, such as making his own stand-in family that includes wife Virginia, and teenage twins Viv and Vin.

How will VisionQuest set up future MCU projects?

Nobody knows what the future holds for Vision in the MCU after his standalone show (Image credit: Disney Plus/Marvel Studios)

Nobody outside of Marvel Studios knows the answer to that question.

However, with VisionQuest coming out before Avengers: Doomsday, i.e. the final MCU movie of 2026, there's a small chance that Vision could feature.

That said, Bettany wasn't part of the initial 27-strong Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement, so he's far more likely to show up in its sequel Avengers: Secret Wars. Speaking to The Telegraph, Bettany, erm, telegraphed he'd have a role in Secret Wars, too, by saying "I think I’ve got some Avengers duties next year."

While it's unlikely we'll get a second season of VisionQuest — the MCU will undergo a soft reboot post-Secret Wars — Matalas told The Direct that we "could very much see" some of the series' characters again in version 2.0 of Marvel's cinematic franchise. Don't count out the possibility of seeing Vision or anyone else again in the future, then.
