Virginia Democrats face pushback over bill allowing less prison time for rapists, manslaughter convicts

A bill introduced by Democrats in the Virginia General Assembly is drawing criticism over proposals to eliminate mandatory minimum prison sentences for a range of violent felony offenses.

Shortly after Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger was sworn into office, lawmakers from her party advanced House Bill 863, which would remove required minimum sentences for several crimes, New York Post reported.
